Description
M1874 Gras bayonet with scabbard. Spine markings have been scrubbed and scabbard painted gold. Ther previous owner’s tag indicates he thought it was Chilean but I disagree. The crossguard markings are definitely French. Same with the scabbard markings. (non-matching) It has a small marking on the ricasso resembling a clover. Ireland did have these, many of which were converted to fit M1888 Commision Rifles they received from Germany so I’ll SPECULATE WITHOPUT ANY ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE that the clover may be a shamrock and this was in Irish possession at some point.
